Beverly A. Shaw

October 2, 1951 — July 22, 2025

Beverly Ann Shaw was born on October 2, 1951, to the late Rev. Coatlen C. Shaw and the late Charles Etta Shaw in Corpus Christi, Texas. Beverly often talked about being reared in a Christian home and that family members were "like branches on a treegrowing in several different directions, but all of our roots remain as one." The family regularly attended church, and the biblical mandates of Jesus Christ were taught and practiced daily. Beverly learned early that family meant more than "just blood." Her family taught and showed her how to love, the importance of respecting her elders, to be open at sharing her feelings, how commitment and sacrifice will help to achieve your life goals, and to stay strong as black people were afforded more opportunity to reach thew American dream.

Beverly said these family dynamics helped develop her to become the woman she would become. I can hear Beverly saying: "Thank You" to ALL my Family for showing me never ending love daily.

Beverly began attending private/public Schools in Corpus Christi. She attended kindergarten at Bethune Nursey School, 3rd/4th grades at Holy Cross Catholic School and completed the 5th/6th grades at Prescott Elementary. Beverly attended Cunningham Jr. High, and Miller High School before graduating from Moody High School in 1970.

After high school, Beverly enrolled at North Texas State University in Denton, Texas, majoring in and receiving a BA degree in Elementary education.Beverly always knew teachers played a vital role in shaping a child's future. She displayed a dedication to having a positive impact on young students' lives and inspired them to create 'a love of learning.' Tapping into her students' creativity and helping to foster a desire for education early, this led her to teach in elementary schools for 10 years with the Lewisville ISD.

Beverly relocated to Houston, Texas and changed her vocation by becoming an oil and gas lease analyst with El Paso Oil in 1986. She was responsible for reviewing, interpreting, and managing oil and gas leases, contracts, and other related agreements. Beverly ensured the company complied with lease terms, maintained accurate records, coordinated meagered relationships with landowners, legal teams, and energy companies, and ensured operational efficiency in oil and gas exploration and production. After a fulfilling and profitable career, Beverly retired from El Paso in 2018.

Beverly had a talent and an eye for current fashion trends, garments and accessories. She assisted clients to look beyond their current fashion ideas and helped enhance their overall image to develop their 'personal brand' when purchasing their fashion choices.

Beverly accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a very early age and was baptized at St. John Baptist Church in Corpus Christi under the pastoral leadership of the Rev. Dr. Harold T. Branch. Beverly participated actively in the Children and Youth Bible School and Church Training Departments.

When Beverly relocated to Houston, she joined the Community of Faith Church. In 2024 Beverly became a faithful member of Living Word Fellowship. She started out quietly, but soon members became enamored by her beautiful, sweet spirit. Beverly found her calling serving tirelessly in the Pantry ministry until she began experiencing her health challenges. Beverly believed she "could do ALL things through Christ who strengthens her." (Philippians 4:11)

Beverly is preceded in death by her parents; her grandmother, Mrytle Walker; her aunt, Mary Ethel Coleman; her 'ride-until-we-both-die' first Cousin Ada Coleman Johnson; and her son James Quincy Coleman.
