Brenda Joyce Sorrell

September 7, 1950 — January 28, 2026

Brenda Joyce Sorrell was born in Edna, Texas on September 7, 1950, to Geraldine Holcomb-Sorrell and Horace Butler.

She dedicated her life to Christ at an early age and loved her church family. She was a proud member of St. Matthew Baptist Church (Corpus Christi, Texas) and Saint Peter’s Baptist Church (Victoria, Texas).

After graduating from Edna High School, she went on to further her education by attending college.

She obtained her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Education degrees from Texas A&M University — Corpus Christi.

She dedicated her life to serving the community as an educator and advocate. She dedicated years of service to The Parents Association for Drug Rehabilitation & Educational Services (P.A.D.R.E.S.), The Women’s Shelter of South Texas, Texas Workforce Development, Corpus Christi Independent School District and other nonprofit organizations.

She partnered and volunteered with various organizations within her community, such as H-E-B, USS City of Corpus Christi (SSN 705) Adopt-a-Sailor Program, Koch Refining Company, Black Democrats, The American Business Women’s Association (ABWA), and more.

She enjoyed reading, singing in her church choir and being involved in public service organizations. You could usually find her smiling, wearing her African attire and signature red lipstick. She loved her football team, the Dallas Cowboys.

She transitioned to her Heavenly home on January 28, 2026.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Geraldine Holcomb-Sorrell and Horace Butler, her stepfather, Eural Ellis Sorrell, her sister, Marva Deloris Sorrell, her uncle Fred Holcombe Jr., her aunt, Ida Mae Holcomb, her maternal grandparents, Fred Holcombe Sr. and Ella Brown Holcombe and paternal grandparents, Alex Butler and Plattie Mae Ingraham Butler.

She is survived by her aunt, Othella Holcomb-Brooks, her brothers, James Harold Sorrell, Marvin Ray Sorrell, Ellis Wayne Sorrell and a host of family and friends.
