Carl Ben Alley, affectionately known as “Jack” or “Sarg”, was born on August 27, 1939 in Rosenberg, Texas to Mattie Lu Mayberry and P. Alley. He was educated in the local schools of Rosenberg and later received his Associates Degree in Business Administration. Carl enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served his country with over 20 years of dedicated service, receiving the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. During his tenure he received various awards and held various positions to include, ROTC Instructor, Drill Instructor, Musician, and Auditor Technician. After retiring from his service duties, he worked for the United States Postal Service. Carl was a music enthusiast playing various instruments such as the Baritone Horn, Piano, Euphonium to name a few. Carl received Christ in his life and was a faithful member of Pilgrim Journey Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and usher, participated in Sunday Morning Devotion, and Senior Adult Sunday School Class. Deacon Alley loved his church and went above the call of duty. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Lawrence Alley, Samuel Adams and Joseph Mayberry, Sr. Carl leaves memories to be cherished by his children, Trena Dewalt and Carla Alley-Berry (Chris); grandchildren, Chanedria Alley, Comiya Dewalt, CPL Ceddric Dewalt, Ania Berry, Alyssa Berry, and Ashlyn Berry; great-grandson, Ka’dence Dewalt; siblings, Charles Mayberry, Jennifer Cooke, Larry Bratcher, Willie Adams (Laura); and a host of other relatives, church family, and friends.
