Delores Glover

August 19, 1956 — January 27, 2022

Delores Sheppard Glover passed away at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Shenandoah, Texas, on January 27, 2022, at the age of 65. She was born in Houston, TX on August 19, 1956, the daughter of Larry Sheppard, Sr., and Mary Peace Sheppard. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Betty Sheppard and Debra Parker and brothers Larry Sheppard, Jr., and Leon Sheppard. Delores will be deeply missed by her only son Pastor George (Shamika) Glover, Jr. of Houston, TX and their children who affectionately called her Granny Dee; Jalin Anthony, Kennedy Faith, Hannah LeeAnn and Georgia Simone; her siblings to whom she was known to as Lois; sister Helen West of The Woodlands, TX; brother Danny (Nancy) Sheppard, Sr. of Conway, AR ; half-sisters Billie Jean Wilkins and Sandra Kay Williams both of Houston, TX and many cherished nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces to whom she was more than just “Aunt Delores”.

Delores was raised in Houston, TX with deep family roots in Louisiana. She accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age, and was baptized in true Louisiana bayou fashion, a story you should ask her sister Helen about.  She was raised in Jordan Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor I.C. Glover, who later became her father-in-law when she married his oldest son Rev. George Glover, Sr.   Delores served faithfully in ministry as the wife of minister during her years of marriage and the mother of the church to which her son planted.  She faithfully encouraged and interceded for her Pastor,  members of the congregation and was instrumental in the church planting ministry. She was active in the Deaconess Board, Women’s Ministry and Children’s Ministry. Even during the pandemic and when her health declined, she was known to check in with encouraging words and be found in worship/praise in her home.

Delores was educated in Houston ISD and studied for a time at Texas Southern University, prior to focusing on her family.  She spent years working in early childhood development where her love of children was a welcomed asset and then later in retail, where she continued to love on those she encountered.   Delores was the life of any gathering and could be found schooling people in a card game, at the domino table or peacefully catching fish on the creek.

Delores was a woman of many talents and had a way with people that was often marveled at by those who loved her.  As someone who had been through many trials and test in her life, she believed in the power of prayer and the power of forgiveness.  She was always willing to be there for someone in need, she was longsuffering and extended a second and third and… as many chances as needed to reconcile those she knew to the family of believers in Christ.  Family (blood, church, and community) was so important to Delores.  She always ended her conversations with an I Love You.  She continually shared her love and the love of Christ with all she could.
