Ernestine “Mary Lou” Gartica Perkins was born with her twin Lorine “Annie Sue” Calyen on March 10th, 1938, in Matagorda, TX, to Lino Gartica and Roxy Ware. She was one of 15 siblings.
Earnestine was known by many as Grandma, Mama, GG, Let Lou, Aunt Grits, Aunt Mae, Miss Mary, and Sister Perkins. She always had a meal that no one could turn down.
Sister Perkins gave her life to Christ at an early age. She was a member of True Light Missionary Baptist Church for over 50 years under the leadership of the late Pastor E.L Lott and current Pastor Craig Taylor, Sr. Earnestine was adamant for being a Sunday school attendant (Women’s Class) and a member of Mission II.
On June 25th, 2022, Ernestine was welcomed into the pearly gates by all of her loved ones who preceded her in death: her parents, Lino Gartica and Roxy Ware; and siblings, Sophronia Burrell, Isaiah Gartica, Gene Gartica, Audrey Bouldin, Hollis Word, Roxy Marion Chenier, Ramona Gartica, Leonard Gartica, Wallace Gartica, and Gladys Young.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories: a daughter, Linda Perkins; two grandsons, Eric and Aaron Perkins; three great-grandchildren, Ariana Perkins, Eric Perkins, Jr., and Layla Perkins; three siblings, Annie Gartica, Andrew Gartica, and Manual Gartica; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and family.
