Gilbert Joseph Alex, III aged 66, passed away on October 30, 2024, in Houston, Texas. Born on December 12, 1957, in Beaumont, Texas, Gilbert loved the Lord and was a beacon of love, generosity, and intelligence, embodying the true spirit of the Alex family.

A standout athlete, Gilbert earned a scholarship to play football at the University of Texas in Austin after excelling in football, basketball, and track at Monsignor Kelly High School. His passion for sports extended into his personal life where he enjoyed motorcycles, tennis, scuba diving, skiing, and travelling. An avid fisherman, he was known for his spearfishing skills, often catching 40lb red snappers in the Gulf.

Gilbert’s professional life was marked by his long tenure at Mobil Oil Refinery, followed by his successful venture as an owner-operator of an 18-wheeler rig. He was also devoted to helping others as an AA member and sponsor. Gilbert was a parishioner of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Beaumont, Texas.

He is survived by his daughter, Joy Mire of Houston, TX; sisters Toni Alex of Missouri City, TX and Clement Siggers of Humble, TX; brothers David Alex (Bonnie) of DeSoto, TX and Kenneth Alex (Destiny) of Houston, TX. He also leaves behind his nieces Tamica Holloman, Lesley Siggers, Dr. Jorden Alex; nephews Kenneth Paul Alex, Jr., Alex Tezeno, Andrew Alex, Jared Alex; and many grand nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Gilbert was preceded in death by parents Esther and Gilbert Alex Jr., sister Leona Helen Alex, and daughters Jada LaNette Thomas, and twin girls Carmen and Carmel Alex.

Services will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at 11:00AM at Elite Life Celebrations by Barnes & Co., located at 14000 Chrisman Road, Houston, TX 77039. The service will be live streamed on the Elite Life Celebrations Facebook page. Gilbert’s life was a testament to his faith, love, and the joy he brought to everyone he met. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
