Gwendolyn Reece Alfred

July 6, 1965 — June 7, 2024

On July 6, 1965, a beautiful bundle of joy was born to Henry Reece Jr. and Gloria Dean Busby-Alfred in Houston, Texas whom they named Gwendolyn Reece Alfred. Gwen as she was affectionately called was the 4th princesses of Gloria's six princesses. She attended school in the Houston Independent School District. She was raised in the 5th Ward area. She accepted Christ at an early age. As a child she attended Galilee Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend E. J. Galloway along with her mother, siblings and her grandparents: the late John and Ethel Busby. She later joined The New Life Baptist Church on the Northside under the leadership of Pastor Leslie Wayne Busby. As a child, Gwen was always the quiet one. When she would get in trouble it would be because she was following her big sister "Bobo". She was the apple of her dad's eye. Later in life, Gwen was married to Leon Banks in which no kids were born to this union who preceded her in death. Gwen's employment included: The U.S. Postal Service, Home Healthcare where she was the caregiver for her sister Barbara Alfred. Gwen had one daughter 'Helen'. Her nieces and nephews became her special children. She helped to raise her sister’s Bobo and Stephanie children (Nephews: Ricky, Jabarie, Delando) and her niece, (Candace). She had this very special bond with Xiomara's children. She was not just their aunt, but she became their surrogate grandmother (Kyarah, Terrance, Allen, Clifford, Journee, Justice, & Seven). On June 7th, 2024, Gwen answered Heaven's call. She is preceded in death by her father: Henry Reece, Jr.; her mother: Gloria Dean Busby-Alfred; Her sisters: Barbara Ross Alfred, Stephanie Alfred, Linda Reece and Debra Reece; 1 brother: George Reece. Her nephews: Terrance Guillum; Christian Alfred and Seven Ware, 1 God-brother: Leodis Wilkerson. She leaves to cherish her memories: her only daughter: Helen Jenkins; a grandson (Jayden); 3 sisters: Dorothy Alfred-Jones (Anthony); Chandra Williams-Curtis; Xiomara Alfred (Vernon); 1 brother: Nicholas Alfred (Delaina): 3 honorary sisters: Jacqueline Allen; Jan Lightfoot; Candace Jones (Cedric); 8 nieces: Rokeisha, Kenisha, Kashonna, Jacquenette, JoNisha, Kyarah, Jordan, Hope. 7 nephews: Ricky; Jabarie, Delando, Terrance, Allen, Clifford, Justice. 6 great-nieces, 14 great-nephews: 4 great-great nieces, 1 great-great nephew. 2 uncles: Pastor Leslie Wayne Busby; Carl Busby, Sr., 3 aunts: Delores Goff; Wilma Mukes; Eddie Joyce Bradford. One special cousin/niece LaCrystalla Wilson and a host of other relatives and cousins.
