James Quincy Coleman was born on March 24, 1982 to his parents Leon Douglas Upshaw and Ada Coleman Johnson.
James was baptized at the early age of 6yrs old at St. John Baptist Church in Corpus Christi, TX under the leadership of Dr. Harold T. Branch, where he was active in Children's Church. He moved to Houston at the age of 8yrs old, where he continued his Christian walk and united with The Windsor Village United Methodist Church under the leadership of Pastor Kirbyjon Caldwell. As James continued his Christian walk, he was baptized a second time at the age of 21yrs at The Community Of Faith Church under the leadership of Dr. James Dixon II. It is here where he really started his own personal walk with God. He served on the Temple Troop Parking Team. Also, he served in the Children and Youth Ministry, where he was able to use his own childhood and youth experiences to help others move through their preteen and young adult lives. James loved God and he was really trying to use his faith in his fight through his short illness.
As a child and a teenager James was actively involved in church, school and several sports. He played on the Southwest Ranger Youth football team. At Olle Middle School, he played basketball, football and ran track. Through his sports, he developed some of his leadership skills (not much, lol). He loved sports so much that he almost had me catch plenty of cases because I was THAT MOM, lol.
As a young adult, James held several jobs like most young people. But in 2008, God blessed him with a job and career at the ILA-24 Port of Houston where he worked for the last 13yrs until his health started to fail him.
A Life with Cancer On September 12, 2021, Quincy received the diagnosis that he had stage 4 lung cancer that had also
metastasized into his hip. Thus began his journey to fight this ugly disease. James stated that God told him, “I got you, but not for you but for His glory." Quincy continued to keep his hope and faith that he would be delivered from the cancer. God did just that. He delivered him on December 4, 2021, where he was free from cancer, and God got the glory. His cancer did not cripple his LOVE. His cancer did not shatter his HOPE. His cancer did not corrode his FAITH. His cancer did not eat away his CONFIDENCE. His cancer did not kill his FRIENDSHIPS. His cancer did not silence his COURAGE. His cancer did not invade his SOUL. His cancer did not take away his ETERNAL LIFE. His cancer did not quench his SPIRIT. Most importantly, his cancer did not lessen the POWER OF THE RESURRECTION.
James Quincy leaves the following persons to cherish his life and his memories: Mother Ada Coleman Johnson; Father Leon Douglas Upshaw; Stepfather Gerald Wayne Johnson; his daughter,"Baby Cake" Amayah Cristina Coleman; his god-mother Kathy Arceneaux; his god-brother's Tre, Keke, and Trent.
