If you want to know how to live life simply and be content with such as you have and how to never covet any other man’s possessions, but how to zealously protect and appreciate that which God has blessed you to accumulate in life, you need look no further than to the life of Joe David Champ.
Joe David Champ was born to the parentage of Clyde and Henrietta Dora Champ in Houston, TX, on July 6, 1953. Joe was the second of two children born to this union, and later became the second eldest of five children birthed by his dear late mother, Henrietta, a top entrepreneur, whose real-estate expertise engendered her ability to move her family upwards into the then-predominantly-white neighborhood of Shady Timbers in Northeast Houston. Joe attended Nat Q. Henderson Elementary School; McReynolds and Northwood MS’s; and MB Smiley High School where he graduated with air-conditioning & refrigeration skills.
Directly after graduating from high school, Joe worked faithfully at Uncle Ben’s Rice Factory. Then, Joe and his Uncle Bill opened up their own appliance shop, Major Appliance Repairs, on Peachtree St. From this simple beginning, Joe went on to open up his own business, which he named J C Appliance Repairs, on Airline Dr. Joe’s last job was with Pinkerton Security Co., in Houston, Texas.
During his youth, Joe attended Williams Temple Church of God in Christ, where he accepted Christ as his personal Savior. There, Joe sang in the youth choir under the direction of his Aunt Bennie. In 1982, Joe met and married his beautiful, devoted wife, Joselyn Brown. Their love for each other was cemented by their frequent rendezvouses in the park; by their eating together at Cracker Barrel; and by their shopping together at whole food stores for healthy herbs and vitamins. Later, they attended Lakewood Church where Joe had a great love and reverence for Joel Osteen. Joe lived an unpretentious life that was free of chaos and confusion. When you saw him, he was full of smiles, laughter, and fun.
Preceding Joe in death are his parents, Clyde Champ and Henrietta Smith; his sister, Lessie Steemer, and his Brother-in-Law, Elijah Steemer. Joe leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Joselyn; 3 sons: Terrick (Danielle), Shondrick (fiance´, Dominique), and Jamar (Masika); 3 grandchildren: Terrick II, Taylor, and Khari; 4 Siblings: Melvin (Alta), Glidell (Lela), Mary Ann, and Jacqueline (Christopher); 4 Aunts: Rebecca (Bishop Worthy), Bonni, Bennie, and Bessie (Uncle Bill); nieces, nephews, and cousins that he loved unconditionally; and 4 In-Laws: Sharon, Debra, Joe Jr., and Richard. Joe was loved and respected by many, being a father figure to the boys in the neighborhood. He loved us all and will be sorely missed by us all.
