Jonathan J. Woodson

December 5, 1964 — June 17, 2021

Jonathan John Woodson was born December 5, 1964 to the parents of Shirley Hicks-Bazile and Rufus Graves (Evelyn) in Corpus Christi, Texas. He made his transition to his Heavenly Father in Paradise on Thursday, June 17, 2021 surrounded by family and loved ones.

Jonathan was baptized, at the age of 11, at St. John Baptist Church by the Reverend Dr. Harold T. Branch. He participated in various ministries and took pride in attending service with his maternal grandmother Pearlie Hicks, until her death, and with his wife and family. Jonathan and his family relocated to Manvel, Texas and united with The Fountain of Praise Church under the leadership of Pastors Dr. Remus Wright and Mia K. Wright. He served in the Brothers In the Gap (BIG) Ministry, until his health began to fail him. He was a proud member of BIG and loved to be of service to mankind. He also served as a testimony to God’s grace and mercy while receiving treatments and MD Anderson and participating in trials to support the cure for cancer. He believed that if he could help one person by participating, that his living would not be in vain.

Jonathan was a proud graduate of West Oso High School in 1983. Upon graduating from The West Oso High School, he joined the military. He served our country in the United States Navy from April 1984 to April 2004. He served for twenty years and retired, proudly. Upon retiring, Jonathan wore many hats and began to sell real estate for Keller Williams from October 2006 to December 2010. He also worked for HR Block as a tax preparer for a few years. Jonathan launched into another career path when he began working at the Corpus Christi Army Depot. He was employed at CCAD for seven years until his health would no longer allow him to work.

Jonathan was an amazing man and great friend to many within the community and his Navy family. He was always willing to drive or fly through out the country and locally to support friends and family members. He enjoyed traveling the United States and around the entire world. He received his greatest joy in traveling to support his children in all of their academic and athletic endeavors. His other favorite things to do were dressing up in all of the latest fashion and spoiling his wife and children. Anyone who knew Jonathan knew that this brought him his greatest joy.

He united in holy matrimony to Angela Portis-Woodson on July 8, 1991. This union produced three children. An’Jonae Woodson (26), Jon-Reese Woodson (24), and An’Jolique Woodson (24). Jonathan and Angela would have celebrated 30 years of matrimony this July 8, 2021. The Woodson family shared a unique bond and enjoyed spending time together traveling, watching movies, attending sporting events, shopping, and visiting family and friends. Jonathan’s legacy will continue to live through his three children, Godsons, and the relationships that he had with friends and family.

His life’s testimony will live through his loved ones; son-Jon-Reese Z. Woodson, and daughters- An’Jonae B. Woodson and An’Jolique C. Woodson. He was also honored to pour into his relationship with his three Godsons Farrin Williams, Lewis Johnson, and Daniel Reaves.

Jonathan Woodson was preceded in death by his paternal grandparent RoseAnn Shaw and maternal grandparents, Willie Hicks Sr. and Pearlie Hicks, and brother Robert Woodson.
