On August 21, 1973 a newborn baby boy was born to the proud parents of Atward Lee and Elnora
Thompson. The seventh child in Houston, Texas, he would be named Kip Lavon Thompson and
the journey begins. Kip received his formal education from Pleasantville and Blackshear Elementary,
JD Ryan, and, of course, the historic Jack Yates High School. Kip, throughout the years, loved playing
basketball at school and the neighborhood. (EP) Emancipation Park was where he spent many hours
enjoying the sport. Kip was a very loving and compassionate person, he was a true character! With
the blessing of being raised in a loving Christian home. Kip accepted Christ as his personal Lord and
Savior. He was a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church, where he remained until his passing.
Kip was employed at Bechtel Engineering Construction Procurement and Project Management
Company.
Kip and Angel joined in union June 2011. They were childhood friends. Kip wanted to help so they
took on the responsibility to raise his niece Ajiah Thompson. From this union Khari D.Thompson
was born. He was a hard-working individual committed, dedicated and active father figure in the
girls lives. Making sure they were well taken care of.
Kip had a gift from making you feel special whether through a thoughtful gesture or a shared joke,
providing a listening ear, but not least, when it was time to exchange U.S. currency. Kip taught us
the true meaning of laughter, compassion, and unconditional love. Nonetheless, we will always
remember the adventures we shared, the challenges we face together, and the countless memories
that now bring both smiles and tears. Throughout his life, he extended his kindness far beyond our
family touching the lives of friends and strangers as well.
On June 28, 2025, Kip was received by those that preceded him in death, his father, Atward Lee,
and sister, Silvia.
Kip leaves to mourn: his wife, Angel (Marie) Thompson; mother, Elnora Thompson; son, Keiland
(Billie); daughters, Aaliyah and Khari; grandson, Kyson; siblings, May, Charles, Sr., Atward Jr.,
Terry, Wendy, Brenda, Melvin, and Latosha; special niece, Ajaih; nieces and nephews, Tessie, Alicia,
Derek, Tonya, Chrissy, Jackie, Charles Jr., Trey, Terrand , Antonia, Ajaih, Braylyn, Teigan, Meisha,
