Laverne Mason

March 29, 1948 — November 7, 2021

LaVerne Mason was born on March 29,1948. She joined her siblings and family on Nov 7,2021.  She has always lived her life her way and on her own terms. Mom gave birth to 4 strong minded children who in turn blessed her with 15 grandchildren. So today I want to share this letter I wrote to you.

I always thought you would live forever. But I know the family above and God needed you more. It’s an honor and privilege way more than I deem worthy of. But I’m glad to be able to call you Mom. You have taught me more than any school or college did. You taught me how to live. And just not to live but to live abundantly, how to set my sights on goals and to achieve them. That you only live one life. And anything you want out of life you must create and get it. I remember you always saying, “Tabitha, what are your dreams? What do you want out of life?” I would say I don’t know. Well, I figured it out. I want to be as strong as you. You always said “I want you all to excel further than I did. I want your children to excel further than you did. Dream big for yourself so my grandchildren can dream bigger than you.”  Well, LaVerne I did, and they did. I know you always worried about each one of us. Stop worrying as life has shown, like with any household full of kids, there are fights amongst us, but we fight harder when someone mess with one of us. In other words, we have each other. I’d say God took you to soon, but he took you right on time. He took you when he saw your work here was done and that your family in heaven needed you more than the family here on earth. You will be surely missed, not just by your children and grandchildren, not by just your slew of nieces or nephews. Great nieces or nephews. But the world in general. I know I told you this before. But I’ll say it again. I’m so very proud of you. You have fought your entire life and always succeeded. This was your biggest fight and you fought hard and strong. Know that you did not loose your battle or did you give in. You won, you won because you chose your victory, and I’m proud of you for that and so much more.

I will walk through life with you at my side and remember the strength you gave me. I will keep the boys mindful of that strength. Together we will continue your legacy and forever remember all you taught and installed in us. I Love you mom. I will let you go for now but will always have you in my heart.

Until I join you,

Your daughter

Oh, don’t worry I promise to keep the promise I promised.
