Layla "Slay" Steele

Layla Larriel Steele was born on June 4, 1997, in New Orleans, Louisiana the daughter of Shirley Steele and Larry Bertrand.

She professed a hope in Christ and was Baptized at the St. Leo the Great Catholic Church. Layla was educated in the Cy-Spring School District and graduated from Cy-Spring High School, the “Class of 2015”. Following her passion and creativity since the age of 16, she decided to enroll in Cosmetology school where she became a licensed Master Barber with the State of Texas on June 25, 2018.

Being full of life, confident in not only her abilities but who she was, a lover of all, having a heart of Gold, she never met a stranger and for those reasons, she will forever be Layla “Slay” Steele.

She leaves to cherish her WONDERFUL and Infections memories; son, Zeus; loving and devoted mother, Shirley (Terry Pierre) Steele and father, Larry Bertrand; 3 Sisters, Jazmen (Mahmane) Couilbaly; Ashanti Holmes and Larriel Bertrand; loving and her devoted “flowers” (nieces), Ja’Kari, Jiah, Janyiah and Aliana; nephew, Jabbar. Her grandmother, Sabrita Bertrand; 5 aunts, Gwendolyn O. (Anthony) Jackson, Urlissa Newman, Makeva Scott, Desiree Bertrand, Keyon (Leotis) Price; 2 uncles, Silas Steele, Rev. Isadore (Goldyn) Stewart; cousins including special cousins, Ronjanique Steele; Megan (Edward) Pierre – Louis and Gregory Newman, Lesley Offner and Ikemia Lawrence; godparents, Jennifer Alexander and Zsa Zsa Luv Savoy; Best friend, Alexus Ward and a host of friends including her “Barber” and “Stylist” family.

Layla was preceded in death by her Grandparents, Frankie (Youngblood) Black, Shelby Cowart and Larry Bertrand, Sr. and 1 aunt, Vionne Lawrence.
