Nelmar Ray Garcia

December 16, 1956 — April 11, 2025

Mr. Nelmar Ray Garcia was born to Mr. Nelson Garcia, Jr. and Mrs. Thomie Lee Garcia on December 16, 1956.  Nelmar grew up and remained in the Riceville community all of his life.  He was a member of Riceville Mt. Olive Baptist Church and was baptized by Pastor C.L. Miller.  Nelmar was a member of the choir in his younger years and a current RCU member.

Nelmar attended Bonham elementary, Fondren Junior High and graduated from Sharpstown Senior High in summer of 1977.  Through his school years, Nelmar was always in the limelight for his assertiveness, his strength and his tenacity; all of which is believed to make him the most admired.  Nelmar was named one of the most popular students in high school and he was well known and well-loved by his classmates, teachers and office staff.  He was an excellent shotput thrower and track runner and was on the school’s debate team. But his passion was bull riding, and he had plenty of scars to prove his love for that sport.  Nelmar was a true cowboy, and he even transposed his family into being the same, though not to the same degree as him.  He loved the outdoors, he loved farm life, but he loved nothing more than his family, children, grandchildren, great granddaughters, nieces and nephews and not least, his love, Glenda for the past 28 years.

Although Nelmar was an avid cowboy, he knew that it would not pay the bills or fulfill his lifelong dream of owning his own 18-wheeler.  Even before he formally took up commercial truck driving as his over 45-year career, Nelmar was stripping gears on those 18-wheelers at the age of 13.  Nelmar’s career spanned some of the major logistics and transportation companies to owning his own truck. He was a master at manipulating those big rigs locally and, across the United States.

Nelmar was also a master cook and the best pitmaster imaginable.  His barbeque pit would be lit nearly every day and out of his generosity, he always shared with any and everyone. Nelmar also supplied his same specialty cooking skills at the Garcia-Harris Family reunion on the Guadalupe River at the Garcia River Camp in Seguin.

Nelmar took his last ride on this side Friday, Aprill 11th leaving his legacy of love to his devoted love of 28 years, Glenda Barras, his children – Archailshea Garcia, Cherlis Garcia-Phillips (Dewone), Brandon Guilbeaux and Bre’Auna Guilbeaux, his siblings, Edward Wayne Ashley, Patricia Garcia Terrell (John), Janet Garcia, Donna Garcia Rougeaux, Fredia Garcia and Felecia Garcia Jackson (Larry), his grandchildren – Silvon Garcia, Andre Sowell (Jadane), Silaya Garcia, Orin Garcia Estes, Jeilon Phillips, Deleiah Phillips and great granddaughters Alahni and Harlan.  He also leaves his only niece, Kina Callier Perry (Ronald) and his nephews, Richard Rougeaux, II (Maggie), Jon Sebastian Nelson Callier, one uncle, Charles Garcia, a host of cousins, a brother-in-love, John Callier and a father figure- Mr. Aaron McMearn.  Nelmar touched the lives of so many with a mutual adoption of brotherhood and lifelong friendships who will also miss him tremendously.
