On April 20, 1940, Matthew “Bo” Jackson and Bonnie Mae Foster were blessed with a gift from God in the person of Marvin Louis Jackson. He would spend his grade school years in Fort Worth, Texas and would eventually relocate to Houston, Texas.
As a young lad, Marvin had great aspirations of being a jazz musician, but his trajectory would change and he would eventually study Accounting and Computer Information Systems, graduating with his Bachelors Degree from the University of Houston. In 1972 he met his beautiful bride, Mary Lue Phillips. It was hypnosis at first sight, and they would eventually marry on July 14, 1973, starting a love affair that would last 49 years. This love blossomed into two children that they would raise together, cross country travels, laughs on the couch and many years of retired bliss.
Marvin, affectionately known to his church family as “Pastor” is the founding Pastor of Bible Fellowship Baptist Church. He established the church in 1989 with what is known as the 7 and 22 (7 families, 22 members). Pastor Jackson was committed to spreading the word of God and ensuring that everyone had access to a strong foundation of Christian Education. This would lead Pastor to getting his Master of Divinity with a focus on Biblical Languages from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. In his 35 years of service, Pastor Jackson accomplished many great works of ministry in the name of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was committed to helping individuals establish a lifelong relationship with Christ through biblical teachings, bible studies and daily ministry. Pastor Jackson also trained and developed church leaders across the country to build effective Sunday School and Christian Education programs through the Union Baptist Association. He even traveled abroad to assist churches in other countries in establishing effective ministry and outreach programs. Pastor understood the importance of preparing the generations to come and therefore was very passionate about mentoring young men in ministry. He was an ambassador for higher education and vocational training. Not only did he use his voice support these efforts, but he also financially, emotionally, and spiritually supported individuals in the community seeking to grow in their education. Establishing community outreach through partnerships with other church congregations, schools and community businesses was also a core value of Pastor Jackson.
On August 27, 2022, Pastor Marvin Louis Jackson gained new strength. He mounted up with wings like an eagle and landed in the bosom of his Heavenly Father. Now he runs and never gets tired; he walks and never becomes weary.
Pastor Jackson leaves to celebrate his memory: Wife, Mary Lue Jackson; son Malcolm Jackson (Lisa), daughter, Meikka Jackson (Phillip), granddaughter, Charquese Jackson, Son-n-law Grover Friar, nine siblings (2 brothers and 7 sisters), his Bible Fellowship Baptist Church family, and a host of friends. To his parents LJ and Bonnie Mae Clayton and sister Mattie B. Jackson-Sayles, he’ll see you soon.
