Robert McKennly Young, affectionately known as “Bo” or “Bobo,” answered the Master’s call and rode on to glory on March 9, 2026. He was born in Edna, Texas, to the late Robert Ervin Young and Mable Howard, who instilled in him the grit, strength, and spirit that would guide him throughout his life.
As a young boy growing up in Edna, Bo spent countless days on Mitchell Ranch alongside his father and his uncle, Walter “Bob” Young, learning the ways of the land and the legacy of the Black cowboy. Those early days in the saddle helped shape the man he would become, a man who knew the value of hard work, loyalty, and living life on his own terms.
Bo accepted Christ at an early age and was active in the youth department at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Though he often joked that he didn’t graduate high school, he proudly said he earned his “PhD from the Hard Knock Life University.” Anyone who knew Bo understood that those words carried truth. Life was his classroom, and experience was his teacher.
From early on, Bo knew he was meant for the open road and the rodeo arena. Whether behind the wheel of a big rig or holding a rope in the arena, he lived with the spirit of a cowboy trucker, chasing horizons, working hard, and telling stories that could last all night.
Bo worked for several local trucking companies, earning the respect of fellow drivers who knew “Cornbread” as dependable, fearless, and always ready to roll. But when the truck was parked, his heart belonged to the arena. Roping was his passion, and if there was a steer to chase, Bo was ready. From Nursery Arena to late nights at The Eggs, or Cantu’s and full rodeo weekends in Egypt and Hearne, there wasn’t a steer he wouldn’t set after and a story he wouldn’t tell when the dust settled.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Ervin Young and Mable Howard, and his beloved daughter, Rashanda Lashae Young.
Bo leaves to cherish his memories his sons, Brashad Dashae Young and Trey McKennly Young (Kevinisha); his sister, Sharon Thomas; his niece, Tamara Traylor; his nephew, Andrae Runnels; a rodeo son, Krystin “2” Gunels; along with many extended family members, rodeo partners, trucking friends, and countless others whose lives were touched by his stories, laughter, and larger-than-life spirit.
Bo lived life the way cowboys and truckers understand best, one mile, one ride, and one story at a time. Though he has now ridden beyond the horizon, his trail will never be forgotten.
