Sammy J Thomas 87, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away on August 8, 2021. He was born April 21, 1934 in Gonzales County Texas to Hermie Gladys Harris Thomas. He attended public school Gonzalez Texas. His Christian growth began at an early age with his parents at St.James Baptist Church in Luling Texas. In 1954 he moved to Corpus Christ, Texas where he joined St John Baptist Church. In 1971, he was ordained as a Deacon. Several years later he joined Rising Star Baptist Church and served as a member in the finance committee. Later joined Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church where he was a member of the brotherhood department also work in the finance department and helped wherever he was needed He also served as a member of the black history cultural committee. He served in the United States Army and honorably discharged in 1957 . He was a truck driver for Gulf Supply company for over 30 years. Later with his experience as a driver he became self-employed as a owner operator of two trucks, then retired in 2004. Sammy Thomas met and married his loving wife of 66 years Cornelia Miller Thomas, of Seguin Texas on February 19, 1955 . To this union three sons were born, Kenneth Thomas Sr. (Ivy)Florida, Stanley Thomas (Patricia)Jeffrey Thomas Sr (Pat). Eight Grandchildren Katrina, Shantail, Dorseth, Katamra, Jeffrey Jr, Dekia, Mimi. Seven grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Three Godchildren Roxanne,Tommy,and Roshawn and their children. Also he leaves to mourn his home going: sisters Ikoza Bennett and Dorothy Nel Thomas, and brother Ellis Thomas Sr, along with a host of nieces nephews and other relatives and friends. Our heart is filled with sorrow but we realize that God knows best. Sammie Thomas is preceded in death by parents Hermie and Gladys Thomas, siblings Maude and George Stewart, Lucille and Claude Coleman, Charlie and Hallie Thomas, Joyce & Claude Lee Barnes, Jack and Mary Thomas, and Tommy and Charlesetta Thomas.
