Curtis Doughty and Mary Dean Scott welcomed their second baby girl into the world at Lallie Kemp
Hospital in Hammond, Louisiana, on Jan 9, 1951, and named her Augustine Doughty. She attended K-12
grade school at Greenville Park High.Christianity was deeply rooted in her household. She was a member
of Greater Macedonia Baptist Church, where she accepted Christ at an early age and also gained her love
for singing. And oh, could she sing!
She met Hullon Vining, Jr., in 1967 and he became the love of her life. They married in 1968, and she then
became Augustine Vining. Soon after they welcomed their first born a beautiful baby girl, Yanesia Vining,
born in Hammond, Louisiana.
The family then moved to Benton Harbor, Michigan, where they lived for thirteen years. During those
years, she birthed three more beautiful children, Shemeka Vining, Toyia Vining, and (Her One and Only
Son!) Derrick Vining. She was employed at the Voice of Music for a short time, and soon after, she gained
employment at Michigan State Tools where she worked for over 10 years.
In 1981, the family moved to Houston, Texas. Once gaining employment at Telxon Electronics where she
also worked for over 10 years, she joined their women softball league and loved playing the game.
In 1989, she gave birth to another beautiful baby girl, Quinise Booker, in Houston, Texas, whom she
called her miracle child.
In 2007, when she thought her full-time parenting days were soon over, the family was happy to welcome
a baby boy, JarVari Vining, and she cherished every moment of raising him.
This queen had many talents such as writing poems, which she personalized for each of her five children
on certain occasions. Cooking was another passion that she did with so much love and enjoyment.
Entertaining us with her tasty food, good music, and jokes created a joyous atmosphere and brought us
together very often throughout the years. Going fishing was always #1 on her list when the weather was
nice. She kept her fishing pole on hand, waiting on her invite. She looked forward to taking road trips to
visit family and friends in Hammond; it always filled her heart with joy. Augustine spent her later years
helping others to the best of her ability. She also looked forward to having a great time with family and
friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Dean Scott; father, Curtis Doughty; stepfather, Allen
Alford; two daughters, Yanesia Vining and Toyia Vining; and grandson, Adon Vining.
