Earline Mamie Davis, age 99, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2023, with her family of love by her side.
Earline was born on July 31, 1923, to Alex and Etta Meade in Houston, Texas. After Earline graduated from Booker T. Washington, she went on to study Home Economics at Prairie View A&M where she was crowned Miss Prairie View A&M 1943-1944. Earline received another degree in Education from Texas Southern University. She also studied drafting design at Columbia University in New York.
Earline was a proud co-owner of Matt Garner Barbeque in the historic Third Ward. She also owned a drapery shop in Third Ward. After these business ventures, Earline moved to New Jersey to become a principal, teacher coordinator, and supervisor in the New Jersey school system.
After working and traveling the world hanging out with various people such as Sammy Davis, Jr., Cab Calloway, and The Ink Spots, Earline retired to spend time with her father and the Marks family. Earline also volunteered at a shelter for abused women, Blue Bird Blue Circle, and Antioch Baptist Church. Earline loved to collect antiques and crosses.
Earline was a faithful member of Forest Lawn Missionary Baptist Church. She was a member of the Mission Department and Forest Lawn Seniors.
Earline was preceded in death by her father, Alex; mother, Etta; and best friends, Henry and Marie Marks. She is survived by her “children”, as she called them, Tracey (Ernest) and Victor; and her “babies”, Tianni, RJ, and Mylo.
