James C. Walker

James C. Walker, age 86, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2025, in the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Houston, Texas. Born on May 27, 1938, in DeRidder, LA to J.C. and Edna Marie Joe Walker, who both preceded him in death.

From a young age, James felt a calling to serve his country, which led him to join the Navy. During James enlistment in the U.S. Navy, he served with honor and duty on the USS Naifeh.

Faith was a cornerstone in James’ life. A devoted Christian, James was an active member of Blueridge Baptist Church for many years until his health prohibited him from attending. He loved singing in the choir.

Family was everything to James. He was father and daddy to Gladys Michelle Walker. Two of his children, Jaime Marie (oldest) and Vance Edward Walker, Sr. (youngest) and their mother Virginia Walker Young, preceded him in death. His legacy lives on through 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Fun and laughter was a gift he received from his mother. James had a passion for playing dominoes, often spending hours enjoying the game with family and friends until his eyesight grew dim. Known for being the perfect gentleman, James treated everyone with kindness and respect.

James is survived by his beloved wife, Novella Kellam Walker, who was best friend and companion; his daughter, Gladys Michelle Walker; his sister, Stephanie Davis Miller (Ronald) and his brothers, Don Lee Davis, I, Eddie Melvin Davis, and Alvin Ray Davis (Linda) and a host of other relatives.

James will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
